LinktreeMARGOT has spent her life moving between musical worlds.
Born in North Florida, she began studying violin at four before leaving for New York alone at 19. There, artists such as Radiohead, Sigur Rós and Björk radically expanded her idea of what the instrument could be. Her work soon took her into the studios of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and St. Vincent, while she quietly developed her own voice as a composer and producer.
After years between New York and Los Angeles, MARGOT eventually settled in Bogotá. A chance meeting with Colombian pianist and composer Juan Villacrez led to The Apartment on Third Street, an instrumental album produced by Amazon Music that has since surpassed 12 million streams.
They later retreated to Vermont where a period of profound personal change and loss became the starting point for a new body of work.
What emerged was The Villain, a ten-movement composition that transforms inner upheaval into something fluid and cinematic. Recorded live in Colombia with minimal takes and no unnecessary production, the album moves between classical, jazz, soundscapes and orchestral music, held together by MARGOT’s singular violin playing: intimate, visceral and constantly evolving.
Released by Paris-based independent label Ekler, The Villain is the work of an artist shaped by movement rather than belonging. Florida, New York, Los Angeles, Bogotá, Vermont: each place has left a trace, but none defines her. What remains is a music that feels both deeply personal and unmistakably of its time.
